Fires, floods, and rising temperatures pose new challenges for political leaders across the world. Political leaders are faced with the tasks of land remediation, waste management, and land reconstruction as a result of natural disasters. On Sept. 25th, concerned citizens organized global protests to advocate for the environmental health in one of the largest climate change protests of the covid era (Reuters, 2021).

Environmental remediation and pollution management have been a controversial concern of political leaders in the United States for more than a decade. The RE-Powering America Mapper Tool overseen by the Environmental Protection Agency contains over 130,000 sited under surveillance for contamination (EPA, n.d.). Environmental remediation and changes to the ways land is repurposed will become a critical component of land management.

In March 2021, the EPA awarded the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health $30 million to assist with environmental remediation (ICF, 2021). According to the ICF, the funds would allow the ICF to “help EPA identify, assess, regulate and remediate environmental hazards for various agency programs such as Superfund, hazardous and non-hazardous waste, air and water, among others (ICF, 2021).” Environmental projects and environmental consulting will become a critical aspect of managing changes to the environment.

An Increased Demand for Environmental Consulting

The Global Environmental Consulting Services Market is expected to see an increase in growth between 2021 and 2028, according to Global News Wire (2021). Environmental consulting teams are already taking steps to support the environment and improve policies to foster environmental health. Senversa, a b-corp certified environmental consulting company based in Australis, is an example of a company striving to reach new heights.

Senversa is a future-oriented company that participates in the United Nation Race to Zero competition, a challenge to reach a net zero carbon emission by 2050. The company was voted a Best For The World 2021 B-Corp (Best For The World, 2021). Senversa also has a long-term plan to increase diversity in science-related professions as part of a long-term Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). The RAP, “is an important step toward breaking down the historical, cultural and geographic barriers to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples’ participation in and engagement with further education and the Science and Engineering professions (Senversa RAP, 2021).” Senversa emphasizes diversity, inclusion, and community in all endeavors.

Employee opportunities and engagement are critical to the success of the consulting company. According to Senversa, the firm is owned by 90% of the staff, and teams are made up of professionals from a variety of backgrounds equipped to oversee a variety of projects: Senversa employs professionals from a broad range of disciplines, including environmental scientists, geologists, hydrogeologists, geotechnical engineers, civil engineers, pavement engineers, chemists, environmental managers, project managers, geotechnical and remediation technicians, design drafters, GIS professionals, and business support staff (Senversa, n.d., Our People).” Projects are offered by Senversa on a case-by-case basis based on applications.

Senversa offers a contaminated land and remediation service as well a waste management for projects in need of land remediation. The company regularly conducts land assessments and develops projects for clients.

According to Senvera, the contaminated land team “can offer services including environmental site assessment, soil and groundwater remediation, property environmental due diligence, underground tank management and soil hazard categorization (Senversa, 2021, Contaminated Land, Remediation).”

Environmental Consulting and Social Impact

In addition to the RAP project and a push for diversity in science, Senversa is guided by the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. The company participates in Map for Impact, a mapping project overseen by the Victorian government. The project is designed to foster employment opportunities and economic growth. Companies that support the Map For Impact project must show a commitment to social change and support.

Senversa not only promotes diversity and inclusion via the RAP project but offers development opportunities across Australia and values the input of a diverse team in approaching national projects. Senversa uses social media as well as community engagement to foster brand awareness. Programs such as the RAP project, the Map for Impact, and the UN Race to Zero competition are powerful networking opportunities.

Senversa is an innovative brand that has combined a push for social justice with environmental projects that support the communities across Australia. The consulting firm ensures the safety of environmental projects with a unique approach tailored to provide opportunities for employees.
