Sometimes we need some extra self care in between professional appointments. If you have a busy schedule or need to extend the time between beauty appointments, you can easily have a spa day at home.
It’s best to plan ahead and decide what kind of treatments you need so you can focus on what matters most to you.
Your skin is the largest organ on your body, so it is important to take proper care of your skin. Exfoliating, treating skin conditions, and hydrating your skin will leave you feeling refreshed.
Exfoliating promotes circulation and clarifies the skin by removing dead cells. If you want glowing skin, this is a critical step. Cleansing the skin properly also allows skin care treatments to absorb quickly.
To exfoliate, you can use a loofa, sugar scrub, charcoal cleanser, an exfoliating body polish, or salt bath.

After exfoliating, applying treatments to areas of the skin that are experiencing acne or other conditions is important. You may choose to apply a mask or body wrap to part of your body if you are experiencing any skin conditions.
Hydrating the skin with creams and oils is an important step of the process. It is best to do this step early on because it takes the longest. Try a rich oil with nutrients for the skin, or a conditioning body treatment to help your skin absorb moisture. If you start with skin care, you can multitask by starting your hair treatment while your body treatment is soaking in.
While you wait for your skin to absorb the hydrating treatments, this is the perfect time to start a hair mask. Decide if your hair needs to be clarified of product build up, then apply a protein or moisture mask.
Spa day might mean applying a moisturizing mask and sitting back and relaxing. Or, it might be more hands on with a scalp scrub or a rose water treatment.
Removing excess oil from the scalp is an important step because keeping your scalp healthy will help you have healthier hair. Removing product build up will also make your hair products work more effectively.
For a strong scalp cleanser, the Innersense True Enlightenment Scalp Scrub is a great clean and organic option. This treatment is designed to exfoliate your scalp with Hawaiian red salt which dissolves when you rinse so you don’t have to worry about excess salt particles. However this scalp treatment is very strong and the tingling feeling on the scalp might not be ideal for some. For a milder treatment, you can try a rose water scalp rinse (see How to Use Rose Water for Hair).
Applying a hair mask followed by conditioning treatments or nourishing oils is the perfect way to revive your hair. This works for any hair type as long as you are using a treatment that suite you needs.
There are so many options for moisture treatments when it comes to hair care:
Remember, sometimes your hair needs protein instead of moisture. If your hair feels brittle you likely need a moisturizer. If your hair feels soft and shapeless, then protein will put the structure back into your hair. For more information, see Protein Moisture Balance: A Complete Guide

Face treatments during an at-home spa day are the perfect way to nourish your skin. Cleansing, purifying, and moisturizing are important steps for glowing skin. Although you won’t be able to have professional extractions, you can still exfoliate and apply treatments to pull out impurities and renew the skin.
Always wash your face before applying a face mask. You can use a scrub, wash, or cleaning oil to remove residue from products you applies earlier in the day. It’s important to remove this residue to allow your skin to experience the full effectiveness of your face treatment.
A face mask is ideal for purifying, moisturizing, or treating the skin depending on your goals. Please remember that just because a product is clean or natural, doesn’t mean it’s good for your skin. Some types of clay masks are not the best for the skin. However, you can use some types of clay to draw out impurities. Remember that you can also spot treat with a mask. You can apply a moisturizing mask on part of your face and an acne mask on other sections.
Don’t forget to moisturize your skin and use SPF. This is a multiple step process. You can apply a light serum to benefit the skin followed by a light cream and oil. Layer your favorite products. For help with this, see 3 Resources For the Best Skin Care Routine Order.

Taking care of your nails is easy with a nail kit. Everyone has a different approach to nail care. Whether your approach is DIY or more hands-off, below are a few tips to help you.
After you clean your nails and file them, moisturizing is such an important step. Brittle nails, hard cuticles, and cracked skin are avoidable with proper hand care. If you regularly get manicures and pedicures, applying moisture before you head to your next treatment is important.
For a powerful nail treatment, you can try castor oil and massage this into your nails. This is a very thick oil and is perfect for conditioning your nails.
If you paint your nails at home, you can try cleaner nail polishes such as 10-free, or 14-free polish designed to support nail health. If you don’t style your nails at home, you can still invest in a few staple nail colors and take them to the salon with you. Remember, the base coat you use is extremely important because the base coat formula has direct contact with your nail.
I use the Dr.’s Remedy base coat with many different brands of polish. Since I started using this, I don’t experience yellow nails or dryness. It also prevents the nail polish from chipping.
If you need ideas for nail polish brands to try or classic nail colors, see Classic Light Pink Nail Polish to Love This Season.
Taking care of your feet is also an important part of spa day. Using a Ped Egg to and a moisturizing treatment is important to prevent cracked feet. This also promotes good hygiene for the feet (and shoes).
