This post will cover benefits of 100% Pure Lip Carmels and potential drawbacks. Although I highly recommend this product, it isn't for everyone.
About 100% Pure
100% Pure was founded by Susie Wang when she purchased a bottle of vitamin c that oxidized faster than she was able to use it. Wang started formulating her own vitamin c product and discovered a recipe that allowed the vitamin c to last longer. This product led to the creation of 100% Pure, a company that offers fruit-pigmented and cruelty-free cosmetics that benefit the skin.
"During oxidation, the potency of the vitamin is diminished, converting to skin damaging free radicals – the complete opposite of what one would expect from their skincare."
100% Pure Lip Caramel Review
100 Pure Lip Caramel products are extremely moisturizing and provide intense pigment. The color is long lasting. When the product is first applied, it feels like a lip gloss but it quickly melts away into a lip stain. As you can see from the very informal photo above, the formula has a subtle shine when first applied.
The formula contains pomegranate oil and cocoa butter to moisturize your lips and achiote seeds to provide a powerful pigment without artificial colors.
I decided to try 100% Pure Lip Caramels after I learned that the product melts into a lip stain. I was looking for a cruelty-free lip product with healthy ingredients that would not transfer. However, I wanted something that was moisturizing. I like this product because I can have the benefits of a moisturizing product and a lip stain without worrying about dry lips.
I've been testing out the product for several months, and I'm always surprised by how much color the product provides. It is extremely easy to apply, but you will want to use a mirror to make sure the application is even.
How Clean Are 100% Pure Lip Caramels
100% Pure Lip Caramels are formulated with cruelty-free ingredients that are fruit-pigmented , meaning there is no artificial color in the product. While the caramels do not have an exclusive rating on the EWG, you'll see here that many of the products from this brand receive green scores.
Main ingredients include sea buckthorn, cocoa, turmeric extract blackberry, and achiote seeds.
However, please remember that database ratings are a guide. 100% pure does use essential oils in some products or fruit extracts that could affect the EWG rating, but that may still be a good fit for you.
Is 100% Pure Organic?
At this time, pigmented products cannot be certified organic. However, the ingredients in the lip caramels are not market as organic (100% Pure identifies organic ingredients on each label with an asterisk).
What To Consider Before Purchasing 100% Pure Lip Caramels
While the product contains natural flavors, 100% Pure defines natural flavors as the brand's "answer to petroleum-based fragrances. While natural flavors can be made synthetically, they are wholly derived from foods like herbs, fruits, and vegetables."
Everyone has different standards when it comes to clean beauty. Awareness of the natural flavor is key to choosing products that work for you.
100% Pure has been known to use USDA-certified flavor in the products and strives to provide natural ingredients for every product. Having tried many 100% Pure products, I believe that the brand has high-quality products and I've never had an issue with an order from the brand.
Other Tips You Need To Know
If you decide to apply chapstick or any other moisturizing product before applying the lip caramel, the lip stain will take longer to set and will likely transfer. It's best to apply the product on it's own and reapply as needed. The lip stain fads slightly throughout the day, but it fades evenly. You won't have patches of color and it doesn't smear.
When you first apply this product, it will feel very lightweight and glossy. Although it feels like a typical gloss that is designed to stay glossy throughout the day, the product will melt into a stain.
Since this is a moisturizing formula, you'll never have to worry about having cracked lips or extremely dry lips, especially in colder months when it's difficult to find a tinted product that is moisturizing.
If you tend to have dry lips, I would also recommend using a lip scrub to remove any debris or excess skin before applying any kind of tinted product (otherwise the color will not spread evenly across your lips).
Do You Need To Purchase Other Products To Use 100% Pure Lip Caramel?
No, you do not need to purchase other products. However, I recommend applying the product with a mirror to ensure that the product is applied evenly. The brush inside the lip caramel makes this extremely easy.
Is 100% Pure Worth It?
I think this product is worth the price. My favorite shades are Cherry Cordial and Ganache. Cherry Cordial is a very bright deep pink shade and Ganache is a warm rose that is perfect for spring. You'll see below that the brand offers a variety of universal shades (some of which sell our quickly).
